Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing arm of Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), said it has acquired Italian Grid & Cloud Solutions provider NICE.
“From their headquarters in Asti, Italy, NICE delivers products and solutions to customers all over the world,” says Jeff Barr of AWS. “These products help customers to optimize and centralize their high performance computing (HPC) and visualization workloads while also providing tools that are a great fit for distributed workforces making use of mobile devices.”
NICE will operate under the existing brand and will continue to innovate on behalf of customers and partners, developing and supporting EnginFrame and Desktop Cloud Visualization (DCV) products, said NICE. NICE and AWS will work closely together to create innovative and exciting technologies and services for high performance and technical computing.
EnginFrame is the leading Grid Portal that enables user-friendly and application-oriented HPC job submission, control and monitoring.
Desktop Cloud Visualization is the remote 3D visualization technology that enables Technical Computing users to connect to OpenGL and Direct/X applications running in a data center.
“Like AWS, we are a customer obsessed company and we are globally appreciated for the excellence of our support and professional services”, said Bruno Franzini, Support and Professional Services Manager at NICE. “With the backing of AWS, we will pamper our customers even more!”
“The entire team will be with us to open this new chapter of our history”, said NICE CEO Beppe Ugolotti. “Everybody is already dreaming about all the new technologies we will be able to develop working together with our future colleagues at AWS,” added Ugolotti, who co-founded the company together with CTO Andrea Rodolico in 1996.
NICE customers will continue to receive world-class support and services, enhanced with the backing of the AWS team. “Going forward, NICE and AWS will work together to create even better tools and services,” added Barr.
“As Jeff Bezos often says, it is still day 1 and we don’t have all of the answers yet,” he commented.
Amazon expects the deal to close in the first quarter of 2016.
